Sewing isn't Simple

I made myself recut some fabric and wash it again today.  I couldn't face the battle with the tumble dryer so said fabric is still hanging over the door drying.  This probably isn't the best method in the world but at least I am getting into the habit of prewashing material and the having to pace this new hobby.

The sizing is confusing me somewhat.  According to the pattern envelope I am a size 6 bust size and size 12 waist and hips, or something rather abstract like that.  I am fairly sure I am not that out of proportion but it has made me somewhat paranoid.  It took a lot to muster the courage to look at those inches on the tape measure and now I feel even more like a freak.

Anyway...

Originally I cut the size 8 but this looks way too bulky on me.  I am now debating a size 4 or a size 6 (guessing these are US sizes rather than UK sizes doh!), or maybe a combination of the two.  Looking at the finished garment measurements I should squeeze into the size 4 but I'm not so sure that I will be able to breathe.  A size 6 looks like it wont be any more flattering than store bought clothes tho.  Hmmmm the dilema.

Maybe I'll just make the 4 and use it to motivate me into my diet.  I have extra (unproportionate/inproportionate?) inches hanging around that I really should shift.

Disappointed But It's A Start

I spent the past two days cutting out pattern pieces, pinning pattern pieces, cutting material and then sewing most of it together.

Everything was going fairly smotthly until I tried my dress on.

Wow it looks like a tent, or rather it makes me look like a tent trying to hide a pregnancy.  Ergh.  I'm so not pregnant.

Now I'm not sure if I should start again and see if I can cut a smaller size or try and take up some of the slack in the side seams.  Both options seem like too much hard work right now.

More sheesh

I got my display stand and then I broke my display stand!  So not happy.  Thinking about cutting my losses and giving up on the whole idea.  Desperately want to save for surgery tho.

Feeling a bit deflated.  I know it is related to another argument with the ex.

Took a step towards some sewing; cut, washed and dried some material.  Now I just need to make myself iron it and choose a pattern.

My mum is bringing me some items to shorten for her.  I think this is making me anxious about starting my own project.  I just know anything I try and do for her will go wrong and somehow cause me problems for days.  Sigh she has left it right til the last minute too as she goes away on her holiday early next week.

Energy levels are low but I think I have cut down my chocolate intake slightly so that is a positive.  Yay.

Sheesh

Still Spending a lot of time procrastinating..must must give this up.

Found some time (motivation) to work on some jewellery.  Having problems getting good pictures of certain items though.  I'm hoping the solution will be a display stand that I have ordered.

Kids go back to school tomorrow.  Gosh it is going to be so hard getting up in the dark again.  We are all nicely out of routine now so the week will be tough.

Dreaming of making a set of pattern blocks but I know that I am far too scared to take my measurements.  Am thinking I should draft them using the standard measurements chart but then if I have to alter blocks later I'm gonna get an idea of my measurements anyway.  Damn the anxieties.

No Great Start

New Year's Eve was a fissle as always.  I'd just rather not talk about it.

Today has been very quiet but extreme pain in my legs has stopped me from really doing anything.  Glad I managed to get everything tidy before yesterday.  Hopefully it won't be hard to keep on top of it all now that I can't walk or bend again.
